TikTok engagement rate formula

TikTok does not print engagement rate on the public grid. The formula this calculator — and TT Stats — uses is:

ER = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views

A 2M-view video with 40k likes is not the same as a 200k-view video with 40k likes. The second one is actually working. Saves (collects) count; they are not optional. Reposts are left out of this public formula so the number matches the overlay tooltip.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok

There is no single industry average worth quoting. Follower size, niche, and paid vs organic traffic move the number. This tool uses the same colour bands as the overlay:

  • Below 2% — weak (grey)
  • 2–5% — typical (amber). 2.5% is average-to-solid on larger channels, weak on small ones.
  • 5–10% — strong (green)
  • Above 10% — outlier (cyan). Still compare to that channel's median before calling it viral.

The more useful check is the median multiplier on the overlay: ×1.7 is outperforming that creator's own baseline even if raw ER looks modest.

A calculator is the right tool for one post. For a channel, install the free Chrome extension: it reads the counts TikTok already loaded and overlays ER, median vs the channel, and views/day on every card — any public profile, no TikTok login.
